Gutter Guard: What is it and What are the Benefits?

If clogged, warped, or otherwise damaged, your gutters will stop doing their job of transporting water away from your house. This can lead to water damage, which may entail rot, rust, or mold. These can have adverse health effects on you and your loved ones. Mold is especially damaging to the very young, the very old, and people with respiratory problems. Installing a gutter guard can help you stop clogged gutters and help you maintain them better.

There are many reasons to protect and maintain the gutters on your home. It’s a good idea to regularly check your gutters for damage and debris and to clean them out as often as seems necessary, especially if you live in a wooded area. But, cleaning out gutters can be hazardous, especially if you have any physical limitations or are just not as young and nimble as you used to be.

If you find that cleaning the gutters often is becoming a nuisance or would just like to take another measure to ensure the proper function and long life of your gutters, gutter guards are a good investment. Here’s what you need to know about gutter guards:

2 Types of Gutter Guards

Zephyr Thomas offers two types of gutter guards.

1. Leaf Relief

Leaf Relief, made by Ply Gem, is built to be completely weather- and pest-resistant. It’s manufactured in 5-inch and 6-inch sizes to fit standard gutters, so the experienced workers at Zephyr Thomas can install Leaf Relief over your old gutters, and it will also fit over new ones.

It comes in copper as well and is perforated to keep water flowing as it resists the wind and keeps out other meddling factors like leaves, twigs and pine needles.

2. LeaFree

LeaFree gutter guards have a slightly different design. Instead of being perforated, LeaFree gutter guards have a slit near where the gutter guard meets the roof, a flat surface on top, and they dip down sharply, angling inward on the outside and featuring more openings for rain and wind to enter. This design keeps debris out and lets the water flow well while also protecting the gutters from the wind.

LeaFree gutter guards come in many different neutral shades as well as bright colors; you can consult with a salesperson at Zephyr Thomas to decide which is right for your home.
