Project Spotlight: Home Addition Replacement and Expansion in Reading

Whether you need a repair on a home addition, to remodel an existing addition, or build a completely new addition, Zephyr Thomas can help. If an existing home addition is damaged, the decision to repair or replace depends on the extent of the damage and what the homeowner wants and needs. In some cases, especially if homeowners are already considering a remodel, building a new addition is a better option when the existing structure is damaged. Here’s how Zephyr Thomas helped these Reading homeowners replace and expand their home addition with a new build:

The Problem: Tree Damage to an Old Addition

The homeowners had a glass room addition on their home. A tree hit their existing glass room and caused extensive damage. The homeowners had also been considering a remodel of this addition to expand it for more space and update the design with new features. They had an existing relationship with a deck builder who would be handling the flooring of the addition and the surrounding deck, but they needed someone who would be able to help them with the addition.

The Solution: Build a New, Expanded Home Addition

Kremser - interior of new addition with large windows with grids, interior sliding doors, dining area, and refrigeratorSince the damage to the glass room was extensive and the homeowners were already considering a remodel in the future, it was recommended to demolish the existing addition and build a new, larger home addition in its place, incorporating the ideas they wanted.

Zephyr Thomas demoed the existing small glass room and then reframed and stick-built a larger 12 x 16 addition with a small home office attached. Additionally, the new addition was designed to extend to the kitchen and dining room for an even more seamless integration with the home and a more functional layout for the homeowners.

The homeowners said they chose Zephyr Thomas because they trusted us, liked the design we provided for their new home addition, and liked how we implemented their ideas into the new build.

Add Space to Your Home With a Home Addition

A home addition allows you to upgrade your home, add more space, and more.

There are also a lot of options for a home addition to help you get what you want. In cases where there isn’t enough space on your lot to build out on the ground floor, there may be an opportunity to build up or build out on upper floors with second-story home additions.
