Congress has extended the 2011 version of the energy efficiency tax credits for upgrades to existing homes, including a credit for windows, capped at $200, for 2012 and 2013. The credit is 10% of the cost of the building materials. It is for windows and doors that meet Energy Star requirements. This extended credit will give homeowners the opportunity to use any available credit they have left even if they have used a portion of it in 2011 or 2012. Any homeowner that has not replaced their windows will now have the opportunity to do so and still recieved the credit through the extension.
